Health and Safety Requirements

Our inspectors are responsible for enforcing Health & Safety standards in many non-industrial workplaces in the district (i.e. offices and shops, etc). However, the Health & Safety Executive has responsibility for enforcing regulations in Government and industrial premises.

The Council also has a number of free publications available providing advice and guidance on Health & Safety please contact us directly if you want a Health & Safety pack or you have a specific query.

All office and shop premises where persons are employed are required by law to complete an OSR1 form and return it to the appropriate local authority.

To download an OSR1 form and relevant guidance (PDF 20.5KB)

Displaying a Health & Safety Law poster will meet employers' legal duty to inform employees of their duties and general requirements under health & safety legislation. Additional information must be provided on the local address of the relevant enforcing authority.

The poster is available from any good bookseller; or at www.hsebooks.co.uk alternatively, telephone HSE's InfoLine 08701 545500 between 08:30 - 17:00 Monday to Friday or fax 02920 859260. You can email the InfoLine (form is called feedback) as an alternative.
