The Local Governance Committee has primary responsibility for holding the Executive to account for the discharge of the functions for which it is responsible and has responsibility to:

• scrutinise the decisions made by and performance of the Executive and/or committees (including exercising the call-in power);
• scrutinise the Executive Forward Plan and reports or proposals to be considered by the Executive;
• consider and comment on the overall financial strategy, budget guidelines and draft service plans/budgets issued by the Executive and any options proposed;
• conduct in depth review of any area of concern that may be referred to it by the Audit Committee.

It also has particular responsibility to scrutinise the efficient use of the councils resources (including human resources, land and property and information and communications technology); corporate policies and procedures such as customer care and public engagement; and financial, constitutional and other internal council matters.
