Voting - Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions about Voting for the Elections.

I have lost my poll card, can you tell me where I vote?

It is not necessary for you to produce your poll card at the polling station. If you telephone the office and give a member of staff your name and address they will check where the polling station for your area is situated.

Once at the polling station just tell the presiding officer your name and address and they will be able to find you on the register.

I shall be away on holiday abroad at election time, but I want to vote, what should I do?

Postal Vote
You can register to vote by post. Your ballot papers can be sent to your home address, if there is sufficient time for you to receive them before you go away. Alternatively your ballot papers can be sent to your foreign address. I must just point out that due to timetable restraints there is usually only 10 days to get the ballot papers to you and back to this office, and your papers must be received by the close of poll, or they will not be counted.

Proxy Vote
Alternatively you can appoint a proxy; somebody who will go to the polling station and vote on your behalf.

How do I apply for a postal vote?

You can either download the application form from the electoral commission at the link below (one applicant per form) or you can telephone the office and give a member of staff your name and address, and we will put application form(s) in the post for you.
