Combined Equalities Scheme and Managing Diversity Plan
This document sets out how South Bedfordshire District Council will continue to meet the duties and obligations of the various equalities legislation and includes the Managing Diversity Plan. It shows how we are responding to our duties and obligations for the respective equality strands under one combined Equalities Scheme, including Equality Standard for Local Government.
We first published our Race Equality Scheme in 2003, which showed how we planned to meet our Duties (General and Specific) with regard to the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000. In 2004/05 that scheme was incorporated into our Managing Diversity Corporate Equalities Plan (published in May 2005). This latest updated Managing Diversity Corporate Equalities Plan 2006, has been revised to cover all the equalities strands as far as practical, including disability equality arising from the Disability Discrimination (Amendment) Act 2005, which comes into force in December 2006, placing enhanced Disability Equality Duties (General and Specific) on all local authorities.
