What does Equality and Diversity mean?

Equality

Equality is about creating a fairer society where everyone can participate and has the opportunity to fulfil their potential. It is backed up by legislation designed to address unfair discrimination.   Equality is not about doing people favours, lowering standards, tokenism or a numbers game.

Diversity

Diversity is about the recognition and valuing of difference in its broadest sense.  It is about creating a culture and working practices that recognise, respect, value and harnesses differences for the benefit of the organisation and individual.

South Bedfordshire District Council Equalities Agenda

The Equalities agenda strives for the following

- staff and customers alike to be treated with dignity and fairness
- people's cultures, beliefs and backgrounds to be respected and welcomed
- good practice to be evidenced and shared across the district council
Throughout the year, we support a number of national, cultural and religious community events.  Information on various events can be found on our events page.
