Artist scheme to be trialled in Leighton Buzzard

Adopt an artist scheme to be trialled in Leighton Buzzard (08/12/2006)

South Bedfordshire District Council will be working with Leighton Buzzard Town Council and local businesses to trial an innovative Adopt an Artist scheme. Local artists the councils and local businesses in the town will work together to create a trail of artwork in Leighton Buzzard. The Town Council has already agreed to give an exhibition space and the project should be up and running in the Spring

The exhibitions will be free to the general public to view over a six week period in March and April 2007. Businesses will be asked to offer wall space, cabinet space or window space to a local artist for free. A brochure will be produced which will advertise the project and promote local businesses at the same time while any artists living in the area will have venues to exhibit their artwork.

Councillor David McVicar portfolio holder with executive responsibility for Culture said: "Leighton Buzzard has a long tradition of supporting local artists and there is a lot of talent in the town. The fact that our businesses in the town centre will benefit from the scheme is an added bonus. If the scheme is a success then we hope to extend it to the other towns in the district."
