Chairman uses Pedal Power (14/06/06)

District Council Chairman Pat Hamill showed his support for Green Transport Week when he ditched his car in favour of cycling to the offices. Councillor Hamill joined council employees who car shared, walked, cycled or caught the bus to work during the national week, which takes place from 10 to 18 June.

Councillor Hamill said: "Its really important that the council leads by example and takes part in events like this. Green Transport Week encourages people to think about the environment and alternative methods of transport, but I hope that people in the district will think about choosing a greener way to travel during the other 51 weeks of the year too."

Now in its fourteenth year, Green Transport Week is organised by the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) and aims to demonstrate how we can reduce our dependency on cars.
