Festive market was a success in Houghton Regis (6/12/06)

Christmas cheer filled the air in Houghton Regis on Saturday (2 December) when the towns Christmas Craft and Farmers Market took place in Bedford Square.

Stalls selling a range of crafts, fresh produce and hot food lined Bedford Square, while the Salvation Army played festive tunes and over 30 children from the Houghton Regis Lower School Choir sang carols.

A number of Bedford Squares shops showed their creative side by entering a Best Dressed Christmas Shop Window competition. Hair.comb and the Help the Aged shop were joint winners and both received luxury hampers presented by Sue King from South Bedfordshire District Councils Economic Regeneration Team and Houghton Regis Town Clerk, Clare Evans. Runners up were Debs Bargain Store and Jewels.

Sue said: "I was so pleased to see so many local people at the event. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day a success - the choir, the Salvation Army and the local traders. It was a great way to start the Christmas shopping season."
