Foley scores one for Caddington (12/12/06)
An opening event will take place between 1pm and 3.30pm, with Foley officially opening the MUGA at 2pm. A fun packed afternoon has been lined up on and around the new facility, including entertainment and games for all ages, and an exhibition football match by some of the villages youngsters.
South Bedfordshire District Council supported the Forum in making their bids for funding, which came from the councils Rural Management Committee, the Waste Recycling Environmental Group Ltd (WREN), Bedfordshire Police Authority, The Co-operative Group, Caddington Parish Council and London Luton Airport who laid the base free of charge.
The top of the range MUGA has the potential to host a range of sports such as five-a-side football, basketball, tennis, cricket, and hockey. It also benefits from CCTV with infra-red cameras, which has been installed by the parish council.
Local district councillor and member of the Caddington Community Safety Forum, Ruth Gammons said: "This is a highly innovative facility that is leading the way in its field. It is outstanding that such a small group of very determined people have managed to secure funding to bring it to Caddington. Thanks to everyone who has been involved and to all the organisations that gave us funding to make it possible.
"Opening the MUGA is just the beginning. Local youngsters are very excited about using it and they will be getting involved in ongoing projects to enable more sports and games to be played on the facility."
