Free parking in Dunstable (12/10/06)

Parking in District Council owned car parks in Dunstable will be completely free every weekend until Christmas.

The council, as a member of the Dunstable Town Centre Management Committee, has agreed that there will be no charge for parking in Ashton Square, Regent Street, Matthew Street, Chruch Close and St Marys Gate.

Executive Member with responsibility for car parks and town centres, Councillor David McVicar, said: "Christmas can be a busy time for all of us. By offering free car parking we hope it will encourage people to shop locally instead of travelling further a field.

"Dunstable Town Council have arranged a number of events every weekend in the run up to Christmas so I hope people will take up the offer of free parking and come and see some of the activities."

A carol service and torchlight procession will kick off Dunstables Christmas festivities at 7pm Friday 1 December in The Square. The Quadrant shopping centre will also host a range of Christmas entertainment every Wednesday and Saturday in December including childrens entertainment and performances by the Salvation Army Band, local school bands and a church choir.
