Golden Oldies are One (06/02/06)

They might have an average age of 80, but it was a first birthday that a group of Dunstable pensioners were celebrating on Friday (3 February), as the Golden Oldies, marked one year together.

The group enjoyed a cake, pass the parcel, and a singing entertainer at the party, which was held at their weekly meeting place, the Mayfield Centre in Downside.

In their year together the Golden Oldies have enjoyed quizzes, games, talks, armchair exercise, line dancing, aromatherapy and a canal cruise. Community Development Officer for Downside, Hazel Jeffrey, said: "The Golden Oldies have had a great year. The group is a good opportunity for them to meet each other, have a natter and often learn a few new skills."

The Golden Oldies group is run in partnership by the District Council and Bedfordshire Heartlands Primary Care Trust.
