SBDC gets tough on convicted taxi driver
A taxi driver whose licence was revoked by South Bedfordshire District Council has been told by the court he can’t have his taxi licence back after being convicted of previous motoring offences.
The driver received six points for dangerous driving and then disqualified from driving and sentenced to 28 days in prison for perverting the course of justice back in September 2006.
Each case is decided on its own merits and following recommendations set out in guidelines from The Home Office and Police, South Bedfordshire District Council decided the offence was so serious that the driver should no longer be licensed to drive a taxi.
The licence holder appealed the decision but the council’s decision was upheld at Luton Magistrates Court on Friday (23 March 2007).
Democratic and Administrative Services Manager Brian Dunleavy said: “It is the duty of the council which is the licensing authority to protect the travelling public at all times. We want to assure the public that we will continue to take all necessary action to ensure that they can travel safely.”
