Flytippers prosecuted - 25/04/07

In a case brought by South Bedfordshire District Council, Roger Monahan and Alex Carpenter pleaded guilty to the fly-tipping of two sofa chairs. The men were working for furniture retailers MFI, and driving a registered MFI vehicle which they then used to fly-tip outside of working hours.

Sharp eyed residents noticed the activity and contacted the council’s Envirocrime Unit. The Envirocrime unit carried out surveillance and managed to trace the driver and interviewed both men under caution. Envirocrime Team Leader Martin Gregson said: “Fly-tipping is a scourge on our countryside and this conviction delivers a message that it will not be tolerated and that we have the resources and expertise to bring cases to court. The team is understandably delighted with the conviction.”
