Gyminis celebrates ten years of healthy fun for tots (10/01/07)
Experts agree that movement plays an important role in the development of babies and is fundamental to all learning. Touch sensation, balance and motor control are related directly to the development of kinaesthetic sense and the attainment of a wide range of movement skills as well as self image. Kay Hudgell agrees: "Our main rule is that the children have fun. Learning in these classes is through play and music and the fact that most children continue for up to five years is a great testimony to the family atmosphere we have in our classes.
"We follow the progress of each child from crawling round and over the equipment to learning how do forward and backward rolls and other tasks safely, and if they show potential we direct them on to local gymnastics clubs and possibly competitive gymnastics."
Mother of two Sue Cullen has taken both her children to Gyminis and her daughter has now moved on to fully fledged gymnastics, "this is a great local activity almost on my doorstep and I have seen both my children become more physically confident through taking part and having fun with other children. They are also learning how to play safely and to have respect for the rest of the class by taking turns on the equipment and listening to the instructor. I wish Gyminis a very happy birthday."
