Do It! Street Dance Performance
The presentation celebrated the end of a successful week where 20 young people aged between 13-16 worked with professional choreographer Jess Pease of TwoStepFitness. The workshops ran from 31 March to 4 April at Kings Houghton Middle School, Houghton Regis.
Young people worked with the dance teacher in the morning and completed an Arts Award at Bronze level in the afternoon. An Arts Award is an accreditation designed for young people involved in arts projects. As part of completing the Bronze Arts Award young people researched their arts heroes and heroines. They also went to see the dance production The Wedding Dance at the Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds, which they wrote a review on to add to their Arts Award portfolio.
Arts Award is growing fast in South Bedfordshire and is an accreditation for young people taking part in the Arts. You can be involved in any art form to complete and Arts Award and the award has three levels Bronze, Silver and Gold.
South Bedfordshire District Council have been training up Arts Award advisors to deliver the award across the district. To find out how you can get involved in Arts Award in your area go to the website www.artsaward.org.uk
The Do It! Street Dance project is run in partnership with South Bedfordshire District Council, Grove Theatre, NACRO and Bedfordshire County Council Youth Service.

Project in the future please contact Emma Van Niuewnburgh Arts Development Officer at South Bedfordshire District Council on 01582 474166 or email emma.vannieuwenburgh@southbeds.gov.uk.
