Work Space Work

South Bedfordshire District Council’s Chairman Councillor Ruth Gammons attended the Work-Space-Work photographic exhibition on 10 July.

The exhibition shows the work of Photographer Martin Figura and chronologically displays the demolition of the AWD (ex Bedford Trucks) site, Dunstable and its redevelopment. The photos were taken over a three year period to produce striking images of Dunstable’s industrial heritage and reflect the changes which have occurred in the local economy during that period.

Work-Space-Work opened at SEGRO’s Woodside Estate on 10 July with a private viewing attended by the Chairman and Leader of the Council Councillor Norman Costin together with other invited guests.

Chairman Councillor Ruth Gammons said: “It was not only a lovely display of art but also a moving story about our local people and their need for job security in today’s world. I commend everyone involved in the project and hope that people from the area will go along to see the exhibition”.

The project was instigated by regional arts organisation, Happen and South Bedfordshire District Council. It is also supported and funded by Arts & Business, ProLogis, Co Tops, ICP Commercial and SEGRO.

SEGRO Asset Manager, Mike Perks, said the project highlights the strengths of Dunstable as a town which has adapted to the changing business climate: “Dunstable’s excellent access to the national motorway network has reinforced its position as a key distribution location for the south east, while  maintaining its industrial base. We are pleased to be supporting this project which highlights Dunstable’s success as a business location and also delighted to be providing an appropriate setting for the exhibition.”

The exhibition will be open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes between 12:00 – 1:00 until 7 August 2008.  To view the exhibition outside these times, please contact Andy Lewis, Team leader Economic Regeneration at South Bedfordshire District Council on 0845 849 6167 during normal office hours.
