Avoid getting Penalty Charges

Do's

  • Always check road markings and time plates adjacent to where you have parked. Even if you have parked in that place before you should always check the markings and signs as the restrictions may have changed or the parking bay may be suspended.
  • Time plates are only relevant to the side of the road they are on.
  • Leaving a note on your dashboard saying where you are and how long you will be does not exempt you from the regulations. Civil Enforcement Officers are not permitted to enter private property to seek a motorist.
  • Do not park on loading restrictions (yellow lines with transverse kerb markings). Loading restrictions prohibit parking even for loading and for disabled badge holders.
  • Do have the correct money for the pay and display machine.
  • Check the times when parking is allowed.
  • Check that the pay and display machine shows the parking time required before leaving the vehicle.
  • Check that your pay and display ticket, residents permit is properly displayed so all details are clearly legible from outside of the vehicle.
  • Check when parking in a bay, the wheels of your vehicle must all be within the markings of one parking bay.

Dont's

  • Do not park at a meter showing 'Out of Order'.
  • Do not leave your vehicle to go and get change for a pay and display machine. It is the driver's responsibility to ensure they arrive at the parking location with the change required.
  • Do not leave more than one ticket on display, always remove expired ones.
  • Do not come back to your vehicle and insert additional coins into the meter or pay and display machines -it is a contravention to pay extra into a pay and display machine to extend the time you have already purchased.
  • Pay and display tickets are not transferable. This means that they cannot be transferred between streets, between different parking places within the same street or between on-street parking places and car parks. They are also not transferable between vehicles or drivers.
  •  Do not ignore a PCN if you receive one. It will not go away.

 Disabled badge holders

  • Blue disabled badges should be displayed on the dashboard so the date of expiry, issuing authority and serial number are clearly visible from outside of the vehicle.
  • The time clock must be set at the time of arrival, even if there is no time limit for disabled parking at the location.
  • There are various restrictions on which a disabled badge does not allow parking.
