Energy Conservation in the home

There are a number of grants and initiatives to help homeowners improve the efficiency of their homes to help save on fuel costs, be warmer and help prevent global warming (through a reduction in fossil fuel use). The type of measures that would benefit each home will depend upon the type and age of that home. To find the most cost effective and appropriate measures for your home, you should contact the Councils partners the Beds and Herts Energy Efficiency Advice Centre, on Freephone 0800 512 012.

You could also view the following web link to find out more about the Centre and the help that can be provided.

Grants for loft and cavity wall insulation are usually available but vary upon your financial circumstances and the house type. Some people are eligible for 100% grants. Often, grant funding is short lived so the Advice Centre will be able to tell you what is available for the time that you contact them using an on line database of available schemes.

Another way of saving energy and helping the environment is the use of Renewable Energy. There are various types of renewable energy and some are more appropriate than others for your home. To find out more about the different types of renewable energy technologies have a look at the following website:

Grants can also be available for renewal energy installations through the Governments Low Carbon Building programme. Please see the link to the Government Departments advisory page for this type of grant assistance:

The Council does provide some grant assistance in circumstances where someone may be in fuel poverty and cannot obtain assistance through other types of grants. For more information please look at the Private Sector Housing page under Housing section of this website. To find out if you could be eligible for the Governments Warm Front grant, please contact the Beds and Herts Energy Efficiency Advice Centre on 0800 512 012 or go to the Warm Front providers website:
