The Planning and Transportation Policy Unit - Our Role
The primary role of the unit is to produce the statutory development plan for the district which sets out the policy framework for handling new development proposals. This involves a rolling process of researching, monitoring and reviewing the policies contained within the plan. Other main areas of activity include of the unit include making inputs into national and regional planning matters, promoting the district's transport interests, conserving the natural and built environment and the production of a range of publications including development briefs for key sites, supplementary planning guidance, housing land availability statements and the urban capacity study.
