Vehicle Access Guidelines

We advise all customers to read these guidance notes from Beds County Council before proceeding with any action regarding a Vehicle Access (PDF 33.9KB)

Write or email our Planning Service to request confirmation as to whether planning permission is required. Please enclose a plan, showing dimensions in metric.

A Planning Officer will be assigned to answer your enquiry, and will reply in writing within 10 working days stating whether permission is required or not.

If permission is required a planning application must be submitted with the correct fee to our Planning Service.

If permission is granted. Please contact: Highways Helpdesk, Bedfordshire County Council, 6th Floor, County Hall, Bedford MK42 9AP, Tel: 01234 228661. They will advise you how to proceed. They will require a copy of your decision notice.

If permission is not required.  Please contact: Highways Helpdesk, Bedfordshire County Council, 6th Floor, County Hall, Bedford MK42 9AP, Tel: 01234 228661. They will advise you how to proceed. They will require a copy of your letter from South Bedfordshire District Council.

In order to ensure that vehicle crossings are properly constructed, all vehicle crossings will be built by Highways Maintenance Operations (HMO) who are part of Beds County Council. They will deal with the provision of estimates and receive payments before the work is carried out.
