How to help us help you
If you are planning to carry out work to which the building regulations apply we can deal with it more efficiently if you:

  • discuss the proposal with us beforehand where complex or unusual forms of construction are contemplated;
  • let us have the correct number of plans with the appropriate forms and correct fee;
  • read advice notes carefully before submitting your proposal;
  • make sure that the construction plans are accurate and are drawn in a clear and intelligible manner;
  • quote the building control reference number when discussing amendments or arranging for site inspections.

How to Apply
There are two ways in which to make an application for building work:

  1. For small simple projects where the applicant is familiar with the requirements of the building regulations and has a sound knowledge of building construction the Building Notice procedure is both quick and effective.
  2. For other works we strongly recommend that the Full Plans procedure is adopted as this offers the applicant greater protection against things going wrong and is the more common method of obtaining approval.
